Welcome to Ballet, Street and Commercial, Musical Theatre and Acrobatics classes for 8-10 year olds.

This cohort is called the Junior Level. Typically, students dance in this level for 2 years and complete 2 ballet exams. In the Junior Level, we offer BBODance Classical Ballet Grade 1 and Grade 2 Exams.

On a Saturday and Tuesday, we offer a 45 minute BBODance Ballet Exam class. This class is designed to teach our students the fundamentals of real classical technique, which translates to all dance styles.

On a Saturday, after the ballet class, we offer a 1 hour Musical Theatre Class. This class is designed for aspiring musical theatre and dance students and performers.

On  a Monday we offer a 1 hour 15minute Street and Commercial Class with Tap Dance.

We also offer Acro Classes for 8-10 year olds. We offer two Acro Classes for our Junior students. Junior Students can attend our Beginner Acro Dance Class on a Saturday. This 1 hour class is designed to be an introduction to acrobatics for dancers to enhance the core strength, flexibility, and coordination, needed for excellent overall dance technique. Junior Students can also attend our Intermediate Acro Dance Class on a Tuesday evening to further develop this additional skill set.

In this 45 minute lesson, the children are taught the fundamental principles of real classical ballet technique, which translates through to all styles of dance: posture, weight placement, transference of weight, co-ordination of the whole body, control, line, spatial awareness, and dynamic execution.

In equal measure, our Junior Level students learn to dance with expression, and to develop their unique sense of performance quality.

At SBS our Junior Level students develop their knowledge of French ballet terminology and are thoroughly prepared for the verbal responses to the theory questions for their Graded Examinations.

As a recommendation, children are entered for the Grade 1 Exam at 9 years of age, and for the Grade 2 Exam at 10 years of age.

We recognise that each child learns at a different pace and that some children may need slightly longer to successfully complete the exam. The Principal will discuss with you any recommendations we have for your child's progression.
